Sugar Daddies: Is it just about the money?

10 March 2010 24 Comments

Sugar daddy.  A term that sounds harmless enough and somewhat even flippant, but the truth is that this is can be a social phenomenon that is far from sweet.

It seems sugar daddy relationships are becoming a big contributor in fuelling the HIV/AIDS epidemic on the African continent at large.

‘Girls are after the three C’s’, says one sugar daddy: “Cash, Cars and Cell phones.”  But how high is the price and how low are women willing to go for them?

The Star newspaper notes that poverty often plays a role in some of these relationships, where people have sex for money so they can provide for their own and their family’s basic needs. But many people also talk about wanting material possessions such as designer jeans which they acquire from sex partners.

The problem of sugar daddies is not just happening in South Africa. In Tanzania, young people told Soul city OneLove researchers that they are forced by the 4Cs to have relationships with sugar daddies and sugar mammas: Cellphones, Cash, Cars and Chips!

Check out this article, which looks at sugar daddies and how relationships between people from two different generations help spread HIV.

What can we do as a society to teach young people that sex for material gain is not healthy?

I hope this article will give gals who are materialistic a huge slap in the face. Why don’t you work towards your career instead of being a parasite to a person, probably has a good looking wife who has a successful career(actually you not parasiting him because money is nothing to him). Why choose to compromise your body, to him money is something that comes like rain, what about your feelings, some people just need to wake up and smell the coffee.

Firstly i would like to say i notced most of the people who view and commet on this article were male, where are the ladies? they have already lost the battle before the fight!……………………
Secondly let us not make poverty as an excuse [YOKU FEBA]gold digging
Some of these girls want to be like Khanyi you know who? so to get there, they find older, rich guys who have already have HIV/AIDS to take care of them forgeting to use protection. The saddess part is, these GOLD DIGGERS have plenty boy freinds which they call them MINISTER OF FINANCE and MINISTER OF TRANSPORT and not forget the guy from next door who is also dating this infected girl………….
