Hallo – Ween!

halloweenIf you’re wondering what the pumpkin hype is all about –  don’t fear, help is near.

Halloween is widely celebrated all over the world – and hectically commercialised in the States (you know how they do)! I won’t attempt to give you the history behind it because honestly, depending on your culture/religion, the theories range from commemorating the day that the spirits of the dead are given a chance to roam the earth again, preparing for the change of season which sees evil spirits being released (something about the phases of the moon) – to retaliating against the dead who become a danger to the living on the 31st of October as they bring illness and ruin the harvest!

All I have to say is: Halloween is a great opportunity to have a whale of a time!

The way in which people celebrate this day differs across the world – but the “theme” threads through all cultures. If you’re planning on throwing a Halloween party (or attending one), I’m here to save you plenty of ‘party planner fees and commission’ – as I present to you the perfect formulae for your party.

Many people say that the best part of Halloween is the dressing up… and I agree.

The point of the dressing-up exercise is to look as scary as possible (to scare off the evil spirits remember). Alternatively, you can dress up as a super hero that may have enough power to fight off these evils!

There is a wide variety of outfits that you could attempt – and the best thing about these costumes, is that you can assemble them at home, using items of clothing (and make-up) that you already own. However – if you’re entering a dress up competition, there should be some great costume hire stores at a dodgy street corner near you!

Who/what you can dress up as:

Character: What you can throw together:
Ghost Anything white. A sheet over your head with holes for your eyes, should do the trick.
Witch A pointy hat, and a broom will just about do it. Here’s your chance to take your cat for a walk.
Vampire Fake vampire teeth – with tomato sauce around your mouth!
Zombie Use black, grey and white face paint to make yourself look as dead as possible!
Skeleton A black full-body leotard with a skeleton painted on it!
Any super-hero If you don’t already own superman cape or batman pyjamas – I say you hire this one!
