Cobus Potgieter, a 23-year-old self-taught drummer, based in East London, is the most subscribed South African on YouTube.
Potgieter has a following of 100 000 and has already uploaded over 80 videos. He told News24 that he already has some recognition and enjoys the feedback from viewers. “Some local dudes know about it, but I’m also getting about 20 to 30 e-mails a day and it feels great to get some feedback that people like what I’m doing, you know.”

Pretoria University’s new vice-chancellor has vowed to empower women on campus.
Cheryl de le Rey told The Sunday Independent that her commitment to transformation comes in the wake of a recent report which revealed that women found it difficult to find jobs and grow in academic positions at the university.
Since her appointment – de le Rey has prioritised the university’s provision of opportunities for women and black academics. Pretoria University’s SRC chairperson Marias Alice says he feels proud that the university is in good hands.

A SASCO vow to shut down nine universities failed to materialize yesterday, with little disruption to classes despite attempts at the University Of Johannesburg (UJ) to block students from entering the campus.
The SA Students Congress (SASCO) had earlier said it would shut down operations on campuses countrywide in protest to demand free education.
Apart from morning protests at UJ, where entrances to the Bunting road campus were barricaded with stones and burnt items, no serious disruptions were reported at any other tertiary institution.
