Does Rihanna have what it takes for movies?

Rihanna is venturing into new waters with her first big-screen acting gig! The singer has signed on for Battleship, the film adaptation of the classic board game, except, you know, with Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgard, and aliens.
The premise makes this one sound like a risky project to use as your big debut, so here’s hoping it’s not yet another singer-to-actor sinker, like Glitter was for Mariah Carey.

Erykah Badu charged over nude music shoot

Erykah Badu has been charged over a music video shoot which saw her strip naked in public and pretend to be shot near the site of President John F Kennedy’s assassination. The singer was charged with a R5000 fine for disorderly conduct for taking her clothes off on a street full of pedestrians during the filming of her single ‘Window Seat’ in Dallas’ Dealey Plaza on March 13.

Preggies Alicia Keys falls onstage…

Alicia Keys may sing about “Fallin’,” but this time she really did it. The 5 months pregnant singer fell backwards while performing “Love Is Blind” at the ESSENCE Music Festival. 
But Ms. Keys kept it moving, getting right back up and playing the piano. The seasoned performer got up again quickly and carried on with her performance.
Now that is doing it like a pro! Luckily all seems to be okay with her and the baby.

SA’s biggest YouTube star!

Cobus Potgieter, a 23-year-old self-taught drummer, based in East London, is the most subscribed South African on YouTube.
Potgieter has a following of 100 000 and has already uploaded over 80 videos. He told News24 that he already has some recognition and enjoys the feedback from viewers. “Some local dudes know about it, but I’m also getting about 20 to 30 e-mails a day and it feels great to get some feedback that people like what I’m doing, you know.”

HHP gets thumbs up for BET Award

SA rapper HHP has been nominated in the category for Best International Act for the 2010 BET Awards.
The “Mpitse” star is going up against artists including Kojo Antwi, K’NAAN, P-Square, Estelle, Corinne Bailey Rae and Sade.

Welcome Mzansi’s own YouTube!

A new territory has been added to the list of YouTube locations – YouTube South Africa. And this is the first domain launch on the African continent.
This means that South Africa-based channels and musicians will enjoy more profile locally, and at the same time find it easier to identify other local users.
