BlackBerry Messenger Selection

The measurement scale for selection of the campus BlackBerry Messengers will comprise of a score out of 5 from online votes and a score out of 25 from the interviews held on campus. Where there is a tie, the judges’ choice will prevail. Judges’ voting is specifically based on the following criteria:

Student Village has been appointed by RIM’s advertising agency - Idea Engineers - to run and manage BlackBerry’s campus & mentorship campaign in South Africa.

Student Village, RIM and Idea Engineers as well as any of its subsidiaries shall not be liable for any damages, losses or costs resulting from the campaign.

BlackBerry Brand Messenger roles and responsibilities

The BlackBerry Messenger will be required to perform a number of activities or campus promotions per month (Minimum 4 Activations per month) during the currency of this Agreement, as directed by Student Village. The BlackBerry Messenger shall endeavor to the best of his/her ability to promote the BlackBerry Brand on the University Campus. BlackBerry shall, at its own expense, supply the BlackBerrry Messenger with such amount of samples, advertising and promotional material as it considers reasonably sufficient with a view to promoting the brand on the University Campus.
The BlackBerry Messenger will work in a team with other student promoters of the brand on the University Campus, and will be required to meet with team members regularly, and to work together on campus promotions.

The BlackBerry Messenger’s primary point of contact will be Student Village who will in turn report to Idea Engineers/BlackBerry.

The BlackBerry Messenger team, both leaders, will be required to provide weekly feedbacks to Student Village on any promotional activities.

The BlackBerry Messenger will be required to provide regular feedback and insights to BlackBerry on youth culture, campus life and possible opportunities on campus.

The BlackBerry Messenger will be required to wear clothing featuring the BlackBerry brand during all promotional activities as well as utilize BlackBerry smartphones during such promotional activities.

The Black may not endorse any product, whether in the same smartphone category or not, which competes with the Brand, and shall not, during the continuance of this agreement, represent or promote any such products without having obtained the express prior consent in writing from BlackBerry.

The BlackBerry Messenger shall follow BlackBerry’s student brand campaign directives given by its agent, Student Village, from time to time.

It shall be the duty of the BlackBerry Messenger to maintain and increase product awareness of the Brand and to represent properly the interests of BlackBerry within the University Campus to the best of his/her abilities, by assisting in promotional activities which may be organised on the University Campus in connection with this agreement, and in all other practical ways: provided always that the BlackBerry Messenger shall not purport to bind BlackBerry to any obligations or incur any expenditure on BlackBerry’s behalf except with the prior written authority of BlackBerry .

The BlackBerry Messenger shall not in promoting the products, make any representations or give any warranties, other than those expressly permitted by BlackBerry in writing.

In the event where the BlackBerry Messenger is issued with items for use such as BlackBerry smartphones, video equipment and other items of value, some will at all times remain the property of BlackBerry or Student Village and the BlackBerry Messenger will under no circumstances have the right to sell, abandon or in any way whatsoever damage the property. The BlackBerry Messenger accepts full responsibility for any such item whilst in the care of the BlackBerry Messenger and shall be held liable for the full replacement value of the item in the event of the item being lost, stolen or in any way abandoned or damaged. The BlackBerry Messenger accepts full responsibility for and shall be held liable for the full replacement value or the cost of repair of the item in the event of the item being damaged due to the negligence of the BlackBerry Messenger.

Participants on stage that enter the campus music competition will have less than 1 minute to show off their talent. Participants will be preselected prior to each campus event beginning.

The campus events and the mentorship programme will be video recorded, and by entering all participants give consent to BlackBerry to use footage of their performance in a variety of media, including but not limited to youtube, BlackBerry and Student Village website and facebook pages, events as well as any broadcast media that BlackBerry choose to collaborate with to publicise and amplify the programme.

Prizes are not transferable and may not be substituted for cash. Prizes DO NOT include any spending money, travel to and from the venue or any other expenses incurred by the prize winners. Winners and their partners / guests must be over the age of 18 years. Right of admission reserved. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Winners use and accept the prize at their own risk. BlackBerry® or Student Village cannot be held responsible for any accident, injury, loss of property, costs or expenses arising from or in any way connected with any errors, defects, interruptions, malfunctions or delays experienced as a result of winning, accepting and/or utilising prizes won. BlackBerry® reserves the right to cancel the competition at any time, if deemed necessary in their opinion, and if circumstances arise outside of their control and shall not be liable in anyway whatsoever to entrants in such an event for any cause or action whatsoever. Winners may be requested to have their details disclosed and appear on radio, television, the internet or in printed publications and are herewith informed of their right to decline such a request. BlackBerry® reserves the right to alter rules or prizes at their own discretion. Such altered rules and prizes shall become effective immediately after being altered or on such a date as may be determined. No entrant shall have any recourse against BlackBerry® as a result of the alterations of the rules or prizes. BlackBerry® will make every reasonable effort to deliver the prize described in the promotion’s publicity, but cannot accept responsibility if the prize differs in whole or part from that advertised. BlackBerry® employees, agents, consultants or any other person who directly or indirectly controls or is controlled by BlackBerry®, or marketing service providers or the immediate family members of the aforementioned persons are not allowed to enter competitions.
