As an initial pilot exercise, I would propose you look at people (friends/family, etc) who spend their time on these network during office hours by looking at the times at which they post comments, etc. From SV, look at the times non-students are commenting, etc. And you can also make this assessment with students...will be really cool to hear about it!

I think ageing is not a problem in SA, economically speaking...look at our population dynamics...only 5 percent is over 65! And in any case our life expectancy is too low to even worry about ageing. Social networks on the other hand, take up a lot of the employees time (if not used smart) and can potentially steal a lot of money (in productivity) from a company (just look at what time I am commenting here 02.26pm, office hour). So for most people who only work 07.00-16.00 and have to leave for home, it is hard to make up for the time spent on these sites (luckily for me i live 5 minutes walk from my office, so can work any hour/day i want). I think it s a very interesting/trendy/relevant and super useful research to dig into...if you decide to go with this one, it'll be great to hear the outcomes whenever you are done...
