@odirilwe ya ey some ppl r twisted.. but the father wanted to do all to his baby jst dat the family wanna disown the mother is she can change the surname without any payments from father's side

@fundiswa98 yep both of them dont blv in tradition but the mother have to choose btwn his bf and family

@QidMarvelous me too i thought so but the mother said she wil be disowned if she change the surname to her bf;s surname... i think she squized between morden and old world

I guess that couple should consider what the law want them to do.

@Odirilwe, yes it is a requirement in law to have a surname, otherwise a person cannot have a birth certificate or I.D.

In no way am I attempting to sound like a douchebag, but in terms of Law (South African Law) a child born of unmarried parents is to assume the last name of he father. In the event of same sex couples, women in particular, who have a newborn owing to surrogate...eish!

Sounds like an exciting situation to be in. Im actually wondering whether it is a requirement in South Africa to have a surname at all? Would be good to know. If I was in their situation, one of us will give the kid a first name and the other decide on a surname (it doesnt have to be something from either of us). Just one thought...of course there are many ways to do this, including the kid taking one of the parents surnames 8-)
