Tired of the everyday baked bean on toast student meal? There are loads of websites available out there to help you get some good food, at a tight rope price!
Since I’m at the office and hungry as usual I figured why not search some to get you the best recipes!

Whether it's to fill your tummy or to impress… here are some tips, ideas and recipes! Guys… girls LOVE a guy that can cook, so take note! If all else fails and you burn the toast… there’s always take-aways (for discounts go to our deals…)

Snack:

---Hash Browns---

Ingredients:
1 large potato
1-2 tbsp butter (from $1.00 4 oz stick)
(or 1-2 tbsp of oil or cooking spray)
salt, pepper

Method
If you’re using a pan, try using a non-stick surface one first… it’ll allow you to use less oil. Butter really makes the potatoes brown nicely, however, so you might want to experiment.
Peel and wash the potato(es). Heat up the pan/griddle and oil/butter it. Meanwhile, grate the potato finely. What I like to do is put the grated potato in a paper towel or cheesecloth and squeeze the heck out of it. A considerable amount of water will drain out.
Scatter the potatoes on the grill and cook until brown on one side. Try and always keep the potatoes spread thinly instead of clumped up together. Flip it with a spatula and cook until desired doneness is achieved. Salt and pepper to taste.

Breakfast:

---Breakfast sandwich--

Ingredients
Bread
Bacon
Butter
Cheese spread
egg(optional)

Method
Fry up that bacon or make it in the microwave. If you do make bacon in the microwave, the best way I believe is to put a paper towel down on the plate then place the bacon on top of the paper towel. Place another paper towel over the bacon and layer on some more bacon. Make sure there is a paper towel on top. Put it in for 2-4 mins depending on your microwave.
THE PLATE WILL BE VERY VERY NOT!!!!
Let it sit for a few mins before taking it out. While its cooling toast (or don't whichever) the bread slices, put on a thin layer of butter and then load on the cheese spread. Then stack up 3-4 pieces of bacon of there and enjoy. You could also add an egg to it.

---Cheap quick pizza---

Ingredients
1. Pita bread
2. Tomato sauce
3. Cheese - grated

Method
By reading the ingredients you'll probably need no instructions, but hey here we go.

1. Grill one side of a pita
2. Flip it and coat it with tomato and cheese
3. Add any other toppings of your choice (optional)
4. Grill until the cheese is bubbling

There’s something about pitas that just make an awesome pizza base, kind of that stone baked pizza feeling. Works great and is very cheap and easy to make, you can cook up a batch of these in no time at all and your mates will be begging for more.

Dinner:

---Quick Chinese---

Ingredients
Rice leftovers
soy sauce
any leftover veg
any meat
eggs

Method
If you have any left over rice than that is best to use because it fries better but if not just cook some up. Fry some meat and veg (don’t worry about boiling the veg if its carrots or peas just chuck them in) and add some soy sauce. Scramble some eggs in a saucepan and add the rice(once drained) , mix well then add the meat and veg and add a bit more soy sauce to taste.

SHOW off dinner:

-- Roast Chicken Dinner with Sausages, Bacon and Crunchy Roast Potatoes--
Serves 4-6
Time: About an hour and a quarter

Ingredients

1.25 kg potatoes
6 tbsp sunflower or vegetable oil or inexpensive olive oil
1 kg chicken thighs and drumsticks or chicken legs
1/2 tsp dried oregano or thyme (optional)
8 streaky bacon rashers
4 cloves of garlic (optional)
400-454g pack of good quality sausages
Salt and pepper

Method

Preheat the oven to 200°C/400°F/Gas 6

Peel the potatoes, halve or quarter them depending how big they are to give you even-sized pieces and place in a large saucepan. Cover with cold water and bring to the boil (about 5 minutes). Add a little salt and boil for 5 minutes then strain off as much of the water as you can easily pour into a jug and strain the rest of the potatoes in a colander or sieve. Put 4 tbsp of oil into a roasting tin and tip in the potatoes, turning them in the oil.

Pour the remaining oil in another tin then put in the chicken pieces. Turn them in the oil and season with salt, pepper and a little thyme.

Put both the tins in the oven and cook for 30 minutes. Cut the rind off the bacon rashers if necessary then stretch each rasher by running the blunt edge of the knife along the rasher. When 30 minutes is up take out the tin with the chicken, turn over the chicken pieces and season them on the other side. Add the garlic cloves, if using, the sausages and arrange the bacon rashers over the top. Replace the tin in the oven. Take out the potato tin, turn the potatoes and put them back in the oven.

After another 15 minutes turn over the sausages, turn the heat up to 220°C/425°F/Gas 7 and continue to cook until the potatoes and bacon are crisp (about another 15 minutes) In the meantime make some gravy (get a mix packet, its easy and cheap) and cook whatever veg you’re serving (frozenpeas would be fine).
