As shocking as it may seem to others, teenage Miley Cyrus (19) is engaged to “hunk” Liam Hemsworth (22). The couple announced their engagement yesterday (Wednesday 6 June). “I’m so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam,” she told People Magazine. The couple has been dating for almost three years since meeting on the set of "The Last Song" in 2009.

The Australian “Hunger Games” star proposed on May 31 with a 3.5-carat diamond ring from jeweller Neil Lane. Earlier this year the couple denied that they were planning a wedding
 after Cyrus was spotted with what some thought was an engagement ring.

Early Wednesday morning Cyrus tweeted the phrase, "life is beautiful," but has not made any further comments on the engagement besides a tweet to Jordin Sparks and Rita Wilson reading “thank you both so much”.

In an interview, Hemsworth told Details Magazine (March 2012 issue) that “What happened happened, and we’ve been together two and a half years,” he told the magazine about falling for Cyrus on the set. “She makes me really happy. When you start, you want to be professional, but when you’re filming those scenes with someone and pretending to love them, you’re not human if you don’t feel something.”

We hope the couple is ready for this. We do not need another Kim Kardashian scandal do we?
