Let’s be honest, students are curious and long for adventure. How does that old saying go? “Curiosity killed the cat?” Well Student Village has a new saying if you are ready for a challenge. “Curiosity scared the crap out of the cat”.

The missions:

Student Village has found five of the scariest places in South Africa. We’re talking, ghosts and ghouls and images of little girls. Basically, the stuff responsible for a sudden bowel movement.

1. The Old Abandoned Kempton Park Hospital

Morgues, theatres and paediatric wards filled with millions of rands worth of hospital machinery. Not to mention scattered patient files on the floors, scalpels in the operating theatre and the odd pools of blood. It’s as if the world was suddenly about to end and every one evacuated in a panic leaving the hospital in a permanent state of creepiness.

2. The Grahamstown Ghost Bridge

The location of the Blaauwkrantz Bridge Disaster (1911), where 29 passengers lost their lives after a train derailed off a bridge into the gorge below. Students go there during the day for the view and the eerie atmosphere. None have made the pilgrimage at night cause of the danger of walking off the bridge and becoming victim number 30.

3. Spook House

Forget American Horror Story and that silly house with its ridiculously good looking maid. Cape Town has its own 24 roomed haunted house. Rumoured to have been used by a cult in the 70’s, the spook house has had one person live in it since he inherited it in 1984 at the age of 17. It is said that no one will buy the house anymore at any price. Those who did, sold it as quickly as they bought it.

4. Nottingham Road Hotel

The story is that a prostitute who fell in love with a British army office took her life by jumping off the balcony of her favourite room. Or was she pushed? Brave students should go on an adventure and ask her themselves.

5. The Macrorie House

The house is haunted by a mystery lady in white. She was the wife of the head warder of the jail and had a secret lover. One night her husband followed them into the tunnels under the house and killed the secret lover and his wife with a bunch of keys.
If things go bump in the night and you are worried about disgruntled phantom ex-tenants walking around the corridors of your house then you get hold of Ghost Investigators South Africa whom conduct paranormal investigations.
